KINDS OF AIR COMPRESSORS

There are two main kind of Air compressor: Dynamic and Positive diplacement. 
- Dynamic included: Centrifugal and Axial Turbo
Positive diplacement included: Rotary (screw) and Reciprocating (Cross head)

  • Capacity: the mass of air was reduced caused compressed air
  • Turbo: convert the received capacity by pushing the speed of the air quickly
  • Tending of using air compressor: Reciprocating (Piston) -> Screw -> Turbo
 

I. RECIPROCATING (PISTON)

1. Principle of compression: compressed air is created  by the motion of piston in the cylinder.
2. Strong points
- The pressure of the air is higher than any others.
- The price is relatively low at the first time.
3. Weak points
 - The compressed performance is lower than others.
 - The air is released with oil.
 - The scope is narrow (the flow of air is fixed).
 - The endurance of the major parts is short (piston, cylinder).
 - The abrasive performance mechanically is decreased quickly.
 - Must be fix and maintenance with high price regularly.
 - The pulse is hight to meet with the reciprocating.
 - The vibration and noise mechanically is very high.
 - Be complicated assembly and occupied much area.



II. SCREW (ROTARY)
1. Principle of compression: compressed air is created  by the motion of piston in the cylinder.
2. Strong points
- The flow and efficient are higher than piston.
- The price is relatively at the first time
- Be assembled easily.
- The pulse is lower than piston.
3. Weak points
- The performance of compressed air is lower 5 - 10% than Turbo.
- The structure of gearbox is complicated (included 5 rotational exis).
- The endurance of the major parts is short (5 - 6 years).
- The scope of activities is narrow (the air flow is fixed).
Must be fix and maintenance with high price regularly.
- The nechanical noise is high (basic technical specification).
- Focus on small machines (hardly have machines with 400HP up).



II. Turbo
1. Principle of compression: Convert receiver power by pushing the speed of the air quickly.
2. Strong points
- Reduce the price of operation, high compressed afficient.
- The air is fresh even without its own filter.
- The scope of operation is large (can be controlled exactly).
- The endurance of major parts is long with high reliability.
- The structure is simple  and easy to maintenance.
- Decrease the noise/ the remarkable vibration and be friend with pulse.
- Minimize and focus on medium and big machines.
3. Weak points
- The price is high relatively at the first time.
